What this lesson shows

• The equinox defines the starting point used to measure the yearly cycle.

• That starting point is treated as zero.  The zero point is useful because it gives the zodiac a consistent reference. But that zero does not remain fixed among the stars.

• Over long periods, the equinox slowly drifts through the stellar background.

• This drift is caused by the slow motion of Earth’s axis.

• The yearly measuring system remains intact even while its stellar backdrop changes.
